Gaitway

August 9, 2008 - Our Gaitway addition is almost done! It is just the most beautiful building. It is happy and soothing. Just the right amount of cozy, warm, comfortable, permanent, connected, earthy, sunny and still a little dusty.

June 26 – The drywall started today. What a mess! If you look at the pictures, you can really see the building begin to assume its character. The stone around the front door and the rough beams are so warm and inviting. The latest challenge is to choose colors and materials for the interior. It’s so hard to choose just one!

May 23 – Time is really flying and so is building construction. The roof is on and the felt attached. This makes the folks working on the inside very happy. The electricians are laying out all the outlets, making sure none of the built in cabinetry will cover them and that they are located in the most available places. Excavation for sewer lines also started, making parking a little tight. The budget and timeline are still on target!

May 12 – The floor joists and truss installation is almost complete. We are anxious to get the roof on so that the drywalling can begin. The building is really taking shape, now. Driving from the north, you really notice it!

April 28 – Spoke too soon! Rain today delays much forward progress, although there are a couple of guys out there now pouring vermiculite into the holes in the cement blocks of the fire wall. The vermiculite insulates the wall to retard heat transfer in case of a fire. Delivery of joists and trusses is scheduled for this week and the second floor will go up.

April 23 - Our new building and her builders are loving the great weather! It’s amazing how fast the walls are going up. Drake Construction has been wonderful to work with. Our construction supervisor, John Maidens, performs a quality check on all the materials as they are being delivered. At first, the space marked out on the ground looked too little to fit everything in. Now with the slab poured and the walls going up, it looks huge!

April 11 – Mr. Borror has set in the plumbing pipes. They passed inspection, of course. Mr. Borror rocks! He offered to also dig holes for a couple of displaced trees which the excavators very considerately saved for us. L.M.R. Construction Company has delivered a load of cement blocks. If the weather holds, they will probably work tomorrow (Saturday) to set the blocks. Construction workers also know how to make hay when the sun shines.

April 9 – Construction commences! The horses are all wondering what that noise is, but they are settling in quickly. Footers are poured. March 25 – TriCounty Towing relocates the gazebo. The construction trailer arrives. Maybe the snow will melt soon.

March 22 – Big snowstorm dumps two feet of snow on construction site.
